The Lord of the Rings
Categories: Literature & Fiction
The Lord of the Rings is J. R. R. Tolkien's epic high fantasy, first published in three volumes in 1954 and 1955 and now one of the best-selling novels ever written, here collected in a single volume. The hobbit Frodo Baggins inherits the One Ring, forged by the Dark Lord Sauron to rule the peoples of Middle-earth, and sets out with a fellowship of companions on a perilous quest to destroy it in the fires of Mount Doom, while the free peoples rally against Sauron's armies in a war for their world.

- Margaret Atwood: “Whenever things are very tense in the outside world I crawl under the bed and read Lord of the Rings. It’s tense in there too, but we know how it comes out!”
- Jeff Bezos: “I was always a big fan of science fiction, even from when I was, you know, in elementary school reading various things and loved, of course, The Hobbit and Tolkien's trilogy that follows on from that.”
