Uncle Dynamite (1948) is the second novel built around Lord Ickenham, known to his nephew as Uncle Fred. He travels to a Hampshire village with his nephew Pongo Twistleton, determined to help several young couples. Uncle Fred impersonates people and invents stories freely, and his schemes upset the local police and the formidable former colonial governor Aylmer Bostock, while sorting out a set of tangled engagements and a stolen bust.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
