Flinx must locate a vast Tar-Aiym weapons system and persuade it to stop the evil hurtling toward the Commonwealth. First he visits Visaria, a lawless planet, to decide whether humans are worth saving. There he falls in with a gang of young thieves and runs afoul of the city's crime boss, while friends look after the injured Clarity Held. Visaria also holds a clue to his own past, in Alan Dean Foster's Pip and Flinx saga.
