The View from Castle Rock
By Alice Munro
Categories: Literature & Fiction
Alice Munro's 2006 collection of linked stories blends family history, memoir and fiction. It begins with her Scottish ancestors, the Laidlaws, who emigrated from the Ettrick Valley to Canada in the nineteenth century, and follows later generations as they settle in Ontario. The second half turns to Munro's own life, from her childhood on a fox and mink farm to her early marriage, imagining the inner lives of the people she came from.
