The Love of a Good Woman
By Alice Munro
Eight long stories make up Alice Munro's 1998 collection. Its title story begins with three boys finding the drowned body of a local optometrist in a river and follows a practical nurse caring for a dying woman who tells her a disturbing secret. The remaining stories follow women making risky choices about love, marriage and escape, mostly in small-town Ontario across several decades.
