The King's Stilts
By Dr. Seuss
Categories: Children's Books
First published in 1939 and told in prose rather than rhyme, this early Dr. Seuss story unfolds in Binn, a realm where King Birtram rises at five each morning to keep things running smoothly. When the workday ends at five in the afternoon, the king plays by racing around town on a pair of red stilts. Sour old Lord Droon decides such fun is unfit for a king, and his scheming tests whether work and play can coexist.

- Richard Branson: “I have been reading a lot of books by one of my favourite authors, Dr Seuss... There is more wisdom and humour in his cartoons and rhymes than in any number of lengthy and highbrow books.”
