The Fifth Mountain

In the ninth century BC, the prophet Elijah flees the persecution of Jezebel in Israel and takes refuge in the Phoenician city of Akbar. There he lodges with a widow and her young son and comes to love her. As war with the Assyrians draws near, Elijah wrestles with a God who seems to ask too much of him. Paulo Coelho's retelling of the biblical story is a meditation on faith, suffering and the freedom to choose one's destiny.
