The Black Box (2012) is a crime novel by Michael Connelly featuring LAPD detective Harry Bosch. In 1992, during the Los Angeles riots, Bosch briefly investigated the shooting death of a Danish journalist, Anneke Jespersen, but the case went unsolved. Twenty years later, working in the Open-Unsolved Unit, he reopens the investigation when a ballistics match turns up. The trail leads him back through the riots toward people who want the past to stay buried.
