The Beggar Maid

Published in Canada in 1978 as Who Do You Think You Are? and in the United States as The Beggar Maid, Alice Munro's book is a cycle of ten linked stories about Rose, who grows up poor in the small Ontario town of Hanratty with her father and stepmother Flo. The stories follow her through a scholarship to university, an unhappy marriage to a wealthy man, motherhood and a career as an actress.
