In Something Fishy (1957; US title The Butler Did It), a group of wealthy New Yorkers set up a tontine in 1929. Whichever of them has a son who stays single the longest will collect the entire pot. Decades later Keggs, a butler who knows the terms, sees a way to profit. The scheme draws in the eccentric Lord Uffenham, his niece Jane and Bill Hollister, a young man of modest means.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
