Matt Ruff's novel follows Andy Gage, a man whose many personalities share his body by living together in an orderly house inside his mind. Andy has built a stable life around that arrangement. When he meets Penny Driver, a coworker who is only beginning to realize that she too has lost time to other selves, he agrees to help her, and the two stories intertwine. The book explores identity, memory and trauma with warmth and humor.
