After a night with Tai Tennison, American drifter Steve Bohannon wakes in Port Moresby, New Guinea, to find she has taken his cash. Australian pilot Sorely McCracken tells him she has gone into the Highlands to join a prospector hunting for gold. Bohannon hires McCracken and follows her into country of huge butterflies, leeches and remote tribes, where the gold soon puts all of them in danger. Alan Dean Foster wrote it as a comic adventure.
