Performing Flea (1953; US version Author! Author!) collects letters P. G. Wodehouse wrote to William Townend, his friend from Dulwich College and a fellow writer, with Wodehouse's own linking commentary. Edited for publication, the letters cover several decades of his working life, from his years writing for magazines through Hollywood and his wartime internment by the Germans, and show him working out plots and talking shop.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
