Categories: Children's Books
Roald Dahl's 1988 novel, illustrated by Quentin Blake, follows Matilda Wormwood, a precocious little girl who teaches herself to read and devours books at the public library while her crooked used-car-dealer father and neglectful mother ignore her. At Crunchem Hall Primary School she finds a kind teacher in Miss Honey and a tyrant in the headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who terrorizes the pupils. When Matilda discovers an extraordinary power of her own, she uses it to stand up for her friends.
