Masquerade
By Kit Williams
Categories: Children's Books
In sixteen detailed paintings and a short text, Kit Williams's 1979 picture book tells how Jack Hare sets out to carry a jewel from the Moon to the Sun and loses it on the way. Williams made a real hare of 18-carat gold set with jewels, buried it in the English countryside and hid clues to its location in the pictures, prompting a treasure hunt that drew thousands of readers across Britain until the hare was dug up in 1982.
