Lions' Commentary on UNIX 6th Edition, with Source Code
Categories: Computers & Technology
In 1976, John Lions of the University of New South Wales wrote a line-by-line commentary on the source code of the Sixth Edition of Unix for his students. The book reproduces the complete kernel source alongside Lions' explanations of processes, memory management, interrupts, file systems and device drivers. Licensing restrictions kept it from official publication for decades, so generations of programmers studied it in photocopies. This edition finally made it widely available.
