Happy Birthday to You!

Dr. Seuss's 1959 picture book is set in the land of Katroo, where the Birthday Bird wakes the birthday child and leads a day of celebration. Told in rhyming verse addressed to its young reader, the day brings breakfast on a Smorgasbord, mustard baths, unusual pets and a party at the Birthday Pal-alace. Its central message is that every person is one of a kind and worth celebrating, an idea its best-known closing lines carry into many birthday cards.

Richard Branson: “I have been reading a lot of books by one of my favourite authors, Dr Seuss ... There is more wisdom and humour in his cartoons and rhymes than in any number of lengthy and highbrow books. One specific quote that comes to mind is: "Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You!"”
