Ray Bradbury based this comic novel on the months he spent in Ireland writing the screenplay of Moby Dick for the director John Huston. His narrator is a young American writer out of his depth. The book moves between Huston's volatile moods, cruel jokes and grand ambitions and the pubs, priests, drivers and storytellers of Dublin and the surrounding countryside, who become characters in their own right. It is part memoir, part tall tale.
