Esio Trot

Roald Dahl's 1990 children's story, with pictures by Quentin Blake, centers on shy Mr. Hoppy, who has long loved his neighbor Mrs. Silver from afar. She lives on the balcony below his, cares above all for her tortoise, Alfie, and wishes he would grow bigger. Mr. Hoppy gives her a spell to whisper to Alfie, and the book's title is tortoise spelled backward. Meanwhile he sets in motion a secret plan involving tortoises of many sizes to win her heart.
