Enshittification: Why Everything Suddenly Got Worse and What to Do About It
Categories: Computers & Technology, Politics & Social Sciences
Cory Doctorow, who coined the word enshittification, explains how digital platforms decay. They win users by offering good service, then squeeze those users once they are locked in, and finally squeeze the businesses that sell through them, keeping only enough value to stop people from leaving. Doctorow argues that this decline stems from specific policy choices made by powerful people rather than from economic law. He sets out how those choices could be reversed to build a better internet.
