Two decades after the secret thranx colony on Earth came to light, human-thranx relations remain cautious. Then humans find Treetrunk, ideal for settlement, and meet the Pitar, a beautiful humanlike species most people admire at once. When the colony on Treetrunk is wiped out without a clue to the killers, a faint signal from a small moon sets humans and thranx investigating. It is the second of Alan Dean Foster's Founding of the Commonwealth novels.
