Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, Literature & Fiction

Patti Smith's short book on the creative process, published in 2017 in Yale's Why I Write series, grew from the Windham–Campbell Lectures. It opens with an original story of obsession about a young skater and a possessive collector. Smith then retraces its sources: a trip through France to Albert Camus's house and the Gallimard garden, a search for Simone Weil's grave in England and walks through Patrick Modiano's Paris.
