A Brazil nut fired from a window of the Drones Club sets off Cocktail Time (1958). The marksman is Lord Ickenham, known as Uncle Fred, and the target is the top hat of his pompous brother-in-law Raymond Bastable. Furious, Bastable writes a racy novel called Cocktail Time under a pseudonym. Its success soon threatens his hopes of a seat in Parliament, and several people see money in keeping, or revealing, the secret.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
