Amphibious Soul: Finding the Wild in a Tame World
By Craig Foster
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, Science & Math
In Amphibious Soul (2024), Craig Foster, the naturalist behind the film My Octopus Teacher, describes diving daily, without a wetsuit or scuba tank, in the Great African Seaforest, the kelp forest off the Cape of Good Hope. Inspired by the San trackers of the Kalahari, he learns to read signs left by animals, plants and water, then applies them underwater to clingfish, octopuses and stingrays. Part memoir and part manifesto, the book ends with advice on starting a tracking practice close to home.
