Set at Beckford College, A Prefect's Uncle (1903) is one of P. G. Wodehouse's early school stories. Alan Gethryn, head of his house and a fine cricketer, is mortified to learn that a new boy, the cheeky and troublesome Reginald Farnie, is his uncle. Farnie's rule-breaking threatens Gethryn's standing and the school's cricket season, and Gethryn has to decide how far he will go to protect a relative he barely knows.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
