The Weave, an alliance of roughly equal alien species, has fought the mind-controlling Amplitur for thousands of years. Most of its peoples cannot bring themselves to harm other sentient beings, and the Amplitur are slowly winning. A Weave scout ship finds Earth and recognizes humans as born fighters who resist Amplitur control, but recruiting such violent allies troubles the Weave deeply.
