Nine years after the Discovery mission ended in mystery, a joint Soviet and American crew travels to Jupiter. They hope to recover the abandoned ship and learn what happened to astronaut Dave Bowman. Heywood Floyd joins the mission, and the crew revives the computer HAL to help them. Arthur C. Clarke's sequel to 2001 follows the crew as they explore Jupiter and its moons.
