Rudolf Slatin

Rudolf Carl von Slatin (1857-1932) was an Austrian-born British colonial administrator. Governor of Darfur under Egyptian rule, he was held captive by the Mahdists for eleven years before escaping in 1895 and writing Fire and Sword in the Sudan.
