White Man's Grave (1994) is Richard Dooling's darkly comic novel about a missing Peace Corps volunteer and the Americans who try to find him. When Michael Killigan disappears in Sierra Leone, his friend Boone Westfall travels to West Africa to search, while Michael's father Randall, a hard-edged Indianapolis bankruptcy lawyer, seems to fall under a curse at home. American law and West African magic collide as both men confront forces they cannot control.
