We Must Not Think of Ourselves (2023, Algonquin) is Lauren Grodstein's novel of the Warsaw Ghetto, inspired by the real Oneg Shabbat archive. In November 1940 Adam Paskow, a widowed schoolteacher, is sealed into the ghetto and shares a cramped apartment with two other families. Recruited by a secret group of archivists, he begins recording testimonies from his students, friends and neighbors, among them his flatmate Sala Wiskoff. As conditions worsen, Adam and Sala fall in love, and he faces choices with no good answers.
