We Bought a Zoo (2008) is British writer Benjamin Mee's memoir of buying a run-down zoo in Devon, England, with his family. Mee describes taking over Dartmoor Wildlife Park and its two hundred animals, including lions, tigers and jaguars, with little money and no experience, and the work of repairing it and meeting safety rules so it could reopen. At the same time his wife, Katherine, was dying of a brain tumor, and the book is also about grief and family life.
