Troilus and Cressida

By William Shakespeare

Categories: Drama, Literature & Fiction

Set during the Trojan War, Shakespeare's play, printed in 1609, follows the Trojan prince Troilus, who wins Cressida with the help of her uncle Pandarus. Soon after, Cressida is handed over to the Greeks in exchange for a Trojan prisoner. Around the love story, Achilles, Hector, Ulysses and Ajax appear in an unflattering light, with the foul-mouthed Thersites mocking them all. Its mixture of satire, tragedy and comedy makes the play hard to classify.
