Titus Andronicus

By William Shakespeare

Categories: Drama, Literature & Fiction

Probably Shakespeare's first tragedy, printed in 1594, this play follows the Roman general Titus Andronicus, who returns from war with the captured Goth queen Tamora and sacrifices her eldest son. Tamora then marries the new emperor, Saturninus, and gains the power to take revenge. With her lover Aaron the Moor, she sets in motion a cycle of mutilation and murder against Titus's family, and Titus answers with a revenge of his own.
