They: A Sequence of Unease is a 1977 dystopian novel by the English writer Kay Dick, which won the South-East Arts Literature Prize, fell out of print for decades and was rediscovered and reissued by Faber in 2022. In a series of linked episodes set in the English countryside, artists, writers and free thinkers find their books, paintings and music confiscated and their friends disappearing, as an unseen, anonymous 'They' enforce conformity and punish anyone who insists on solitude, grief or independent thought.
