Then We Came to the End

Then We Came to the End (2007) is Joshua Ferris's debut novel, narrated in the first-person plural by the staff of a Chicago advertising agency at the end of the dot-com boom. As layoffs spread and rumors thicken, the collective "we" of copywriters and art directors watches office politics, petty theft, a partner's possible breakdown and the strange intimacy of people who share cubicles but not futures. Funny and melancholy by turns, it treats the workplace as a tribe under siege.
