The Year of the Flood is a 2009 novel by Margaret Atwood and the second book of her MaddAddam trilogy, unfolding in the same world and over the same span of time as Oryx and Crake. It follows Toby and Ren, two women linked to God's Gardeners, a religious group devoted to the fusion of science, religion and nature, who survive a man-made pandemic, the 'waterless flood', that wipes out most of humanity in a future ruled by corporations and genetic engineering.
