The Wonder is a 2016 novel by Emma Donoghue, author of Room. Set in rural Ireland in the 1850s, it follows Lib Wright, an English nurse trained under Florence Nightingale, who is hired to watch over eleven-year-old Anna O'Donnell. Anna's family claims she has eaten nothing for four months yet remains alive, and pilgrims flock to see the miracle. As Lib tries to uncover the truth, she must decide whether to save the child. The novel was shortlisted for the Giller Prize and adapted as a 2022 film.
