Categories: Literature & Fiction
The Woman Who Walked into Doors is a 1996 novel by Irish writer Roddy Doyle, who won the Booker Prize for Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha. It grew out of his 1994 BBC television series Family. Paula Spencer, a 39-year-old Dublin cleaner and widow, looks back on her life, her marriage to Charlo, and the years of beatings she hid from doctors and neighbors with excuses like walking into doors. Told in her own voice, it is a portrait of domestic abuse, alcoholism, and survival.
