The White Tiger
Categories: Literature & Fiction
The White Tiger (2008) is Aravind Adiga's debut novel, told as a series of late-night letters from Bangalore entrepreneur Balram Halwai to China's visiting premier. Balram recounts his rise from a poor village in the "Darkness" of rural India to chauffeur for a rich Delhi family, and the crime he commits to escape servitude in a country of call centers, bribes and caste. Darkly comic and sharp-edged, the confession maps what he calls the rooster coop of modern India.
