The Twisted Ones
Categories: Literature & Fiction
The Twisted Ones (2019) by T. Kingfisher, the pen name of Ursula Vernon, is a horror novel. Mouse, a freelance editor, travels to rural North Carolina with her coonhound, Bongo, to clear out her late grandmother's hoarded house. Among the clutter she finds her step-grandfather's journal, full of strange references to the twisted ones and to the woods behind the house. Inspired by Arthur Machen's story The White People, the novel combines a wry narrator with mounting dread.

- Stephen King: “Two books for spooky season: COFFIN MOON, Keith Rosson: Best modern vampire story ever (although it's set in the 70s). THE TWISTED ONES, by T. Kingfisher: It lures you in with chatty good humor (especially about NPR Pledge Week) and a lovely dog...then slams the door and bites you in the dark.”
