The Stuff of Thought: Language as a Window into Human Nature
Categories: Science & Math
The Stuff of Thought (2007) is Steven Pinker's look at what language reveals about how people think. He examines how verbs encode ideas of space, time, causation and force. He also covers names, metaphors, swearing and indirect speech, such as veiled threats and bribes, and argues that they show the basic concepts and social relationships built into human nature.
