The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
Categories: Literature & Fiction
The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is an 1886 novella by the Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson, one of the most famous studies of duality in literature, whose title has become shorthand for a split personality. The London lawyer Gabriel John Utterson investigates the strange connection between his respected friend Dr Henry Jekyll and the brutal, repellent Edward Hyde, uncovering a terrible experiment in which Jekyll has found a way to release the evil side of his own nature, with tragic results.
