The Spies of Warsaw is Alan Furst's historical spy novel set in Poland on the eve of World War II. In 1937, Colonel Jean-François Mercier, a decorated French veteran, serves as military attaché at the French embassy in Warsaw, where he runs agents gathering intelligence on German plans. As he learns of Germany's preparations for armored warfare, he also falls in love with a Parisian lawyer working for the League of Nations. The novel was later adapted for television.
