The Pragmatic Programmer: From Journeyman to Master
Categories: Computers & Technology
The Pragmatic Programmer is Andrew Hunt and David Thomas's 1999 guide to the habits and attitudes of effective software developers. In short, practical sections the authors cover taking responsibility for your work, avoiding duplication, keeping code flexible, using tools well, debugging, testing and working in teams. Ideas such as "Don't Repeat Yourself," broken windows and tracer bullets came from this book, which remains a favorite starting point for programmers who want to improve their craft.

- David Heinemeier Hansson: “Great book, just not really about the nitty gritty in the same way that those other three are.”
