Categories: Arts & Photography, Science & Math
The Oldest Living Things in the World is artist Rachel Sussman's photographic survey of organisms that have lived for 2,000 years or more. Over a decade, Sussman traveled to every continent to photograph ancient life, from Antarctic moss and Tasmanian pines to Mojave Desert shrubs, giant sequoias and underwater sea grass. Her images are paired with short essays about her journeys and the science of each organism, offering a meditation on deep time and the fragility of life.
