The Nightingale's Song
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, History
The Nightingale's Song, by journalist Robert Timberg, follows five Naval Academy graduates: John McCain, James Webb, Oliver North, Robert McFarlane and John Poindexter. Timberg, himself an Annapolis graduate who served as a Marine in Vietnam, examines how the academy and the war shaped each man. He traces how those experiences foreshadowed their political careers and, for some, their involvement in the Iran-Contra affair, and he probes the fault line between those who fought in Vietnam and those who used money and connections to avoid it.

- Jocko Willink: “He also mentioned a book called The Nightingale's Song, which is a great book, and we'll put that one on as well.”
