The New Tsar: The Rise and Reign of Vladimir Putin
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, Politics & Social Sciences
The New Tsar is a biography of Vladimir Putin by Steven Lee Myers, a former Moscow bureau chief for The New York Times. Myers follows Putin from a poor childhood in postwar Leningrad through his years as a KGB officer and his work in St. Petersburg city government, then his rapid rise to the presidency in 1999. He traces how Putin consolidated power, reshaped Russia and confronted the West, through wars in Chechnya, Georgia and Ukraine.
