The Nature of Drugs Vol. 1: History, Pharmacology, and Social Impact
Categories: Medical Books, Science & Math
In 1987 the chemist Alexander Shulgin taught an introductory course on drugs and biochemistry at San Francisco State University, and Ann Shulgin recorded the lectures on cassette tapes. This first volume transcribes lectures one through eight, edited by Keeper Trout and supplemented with Shulgin's written notes where the recordings fall short. It covers the history of psychoactive substances, how drugs act on the body and brain, and the place of drugs in society, from the perspective of a chemist who synthesized many of them.
