Edgar Allan Poe's only complete novel tells the story of Arthur Gordon Pym, a young man who stows away on a whaling ship. Pym survives a mutiny, a shipwreck, starvation and cannibalism before being rescued and carried toward the South Pole, where he encounters strange islands and a hostile people. Published in 1838, the novel mixes sea adventure, horror and mystery and ends with one of the most famous unresolved scenes in American literature.
