The Merry Wives of Windsor

By William Shakespeare

Categories: Drama, Literature & Fiction

Shakespeare's only comedy set in the England of his own day, printed in 1602, brings Sir John Falstaff to Windsor. Short of money, he sends identical love letters to two married women, Mistress Ford and Mistress Page. The wives compare letters and plot a series of humiliations for him, while the jealous Master Ford, in disguise, spies on his own wife. A subplot follows three suitors competing for the Pages' daughter, Anne.
